CNY 2015 Crispy Snacks & A Giveaway!

Counting down to CNY 2015 and I am trying out some simple crispy snacks which I've missed out making last year :D (1) Crispy Seaweed Crackers (2) Crispy Curry Crabstick/ Crispy Spicy Seaweed Crabstick and our favourite of all (3) Arrowhead Chips!

(1)
Crispy Seaweed Crackers 紫菜春卷脆饼

Method : 1 pack of large size spring roll wrapper, 1 packet Crispy Seaweed, 1 egg white, sesame seeds. Brush one side of the wrapper with some egg white, place a piece of seaweed over, brush egg white again and place another spring roll wrapper over, finally brush egg white again and sprinkle sesame seeds over. Cut into desired size and deep fried in hot oil till lightly brown and crisp. Note : This crackers won't take long to be ready....keep an eye on them constantly to prevent over browning.

(2)
(L) Crispy Curry Crabstick  酥脆咖喱蟹柳
(R) Crispy Spicy Seaweed Crabstick 酥脆海苔辣蟹柳

Recipe ref : Singapore HomeCook
Curry flavour spice coating : 1/4cup rice flour, 1 tsp curry powder, 1 tsp garlic powder, salt & pepper

Spicy Seaweed coating : 1/4 cup rice flour, 1 tsp Korean chilli flakes, 1 tsp garlic powder, salt & pepper (toss in Japanese seaweed powder after frying)

Method : Shred 1 packet crabstick thinly. Toss evenly with prepared seasoning and deep fry in hot oil till crispy. Drain well on kitchen paper.

(3)
Fried Ngaku 炸芽菇

Method : procedure as per Wendy from Table for 2 or more....
Though the making of Arrowhead Chips is not as simple as the 2 crispy snacks above, but the effort is all worthwhile!

Hi, may I ask what's the purpose of using the rice flour for the crabstick?

Peng said...

Agnes Lee...rice flour coating ensure all the other seasoning are well adhered and give extra crisp.
