'I smell something sour, what are you cooking?' commented by hubby >.< As usual this fish broth does not entice him at all. I assure him that it is not fishy at all and he still did not even want to taste a sip of the broth...sigh so hard to please...Anyway me and my kids enjoy this fish broth especially in this cooling weather, so satisfying to have a bowl of hearty broth to warm up our tummies :D
Fish in Broth, Northern Style
Ingredient
- 1 whole fish, approx 750gm (I used a 1/2 kg white snapper fish head)
- 3 shallots, sliced
- 2 cloves garlic, sliced,
- 2 cm galangal, sliced
- 2 cm ginger, sliced
- 1 lemon grass, bruised
- 2 slices assam gelugor
- 1/4 tsp fenugreek
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1 tomato, sliced
- 800-1000ml water
Method
- Clean and cut fish into pieces (if using a whole fish). Marinate with salt & turmeric powder.
- Place all ingredients, except fish and tomato, into a pot, bring to boil for 2 mins.
- Put in fish and tomato and simmer on medium heat until the fish is cooked. Add more salt if needed.
